About Zoroastrian Temples in Azerbaijan

Fire temples (atash behrams and agiaries) are the houses of worship of Zoroastrianism, one of the world's oldest monotheistic religions, founded by the prophet Zarathustra more than 3,000 years ago. Each temple maintains a sacred fire — a symbol of Ahura Mazda's purity and truth — that is tended continuously by priests. Eight atash behrams (the highest grade of fire temple) survive today, all in India and Iran. Iran's Yazd region remains the historic heartland, home to the Atashkadeh of Yazd. The Parsi diaspora maintains active fire temples primarily in Mumbai and across India, with smaller communities in Pakistan, the United Kingdom, and North America.
